I can haz 50% off on .cat?

A promotion on .cat domains, the TLD for Catalonia*, also has us excited for other reasons too.

When studies revealed that rodents infected with Toxoplasmosis gondii (n.b. that’s gondii not Gandi), a parasite which may be spread by cats, may be attracted to cat odors rather than repelled as was the case with uninfected control subjects, the media was quick to suppose the parasite could have the same effect in humans and invented “Crazy cat lady syndrome,” to explain why some of us just can’t help but love cats.

Of course, there’s no such syndrome. It turns out that cats infect us with love without resorting to parasitical proxies. And you don’t need to look far on the Internet to see why. Normally expressing your cat love with a .cat domain for one year is $13.00 at A rates but from June 8 until September 1 (recently extended!), you can get one for half-price: $6.50.

* A very important caveat regarding .cat domains is that you need to put at least some content on your .cat domain in Catalan. Here’s a hint: gat is Catalan for “cat.”
