A new security vulnerability, CVE-2015-3456, was announced last week. The flaw is found in the QEMU virtualization software, and permits an attacker to gain access to a vulnerable host from a virtual machine located on that host.

Immediately following this announcement, we applied the necessary patches, thus reinforcing the existing security measures we had previously implemented. Over the past week, we have continued to study the vulnerability. As a preventative measure, we have decided that a reboot of certain VMs is required in order to ensure that all possible attack vectors have been mitigated.

This preventive reboot will only affect a small proportion of our customers. We will contact affected customers directly via email to provide instructions on performing the reboot on their own.

We will reboot the VMs of affected customers (who have not rebooted on their own) on Monday, May 25 at 11:59 p.m. PDT (that is: Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 07:59 UTC).

Three more new gTLDs are entering the Sunrise phase, which will last until June 29 at 7:59 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

The list is below, accompanied by the corresponding Sunrise  and Golive prices of a one-year registration, all at A rates:

The GoLive phase for all three of these new TLDs will begin July 1, 2015 at 8 a.m. PDT.

Contact our corporate support team if you have a TMCH-registered trademark (or would like help registering your existing trademark at TMCH) in order to register one of these new gTLDs during Sunrise. If you are not among the trademarked, you can still pre-register for the GoLive phase. We'll submit your order at the earliest possible moment – as soon as your chosen phase begins – for the best chance of success.

As you surely know, .FR finally switched to multi-year registration on March 30th.

For those of you that are unaware, before that date, a .FR domain could only be registered for one year at a time. Currently, like the large majority of extensions, a .FR domain can be registered for up to 10 years.

In order to celebrate this very good news, during the entire month of May, we are providing you with a promo of .FR domains for 5 years or more, with a yearly price of €9 excl. VAT versus the usual €12 under A rates. For a .FR domain registered for 10 years, for example, this would come to €90 instead of €120 excl. VAT. Note that this promo is only valid for A and B rates.

And for those that already have their .FR domain, if you want to renew it for 5 or more years, you can use the promo code FR5PLUS which will give you a 10% discount on the total price.

Of course these two promos are ALSO valid for the domains of the French overseas departments and territories: .RE (Reunion Island), .YT (Mayotte), .WF (Wallis and Futuna), .TF (French Southern and Antarctic Lands) et .PM (Saint Pierre and Miquelon).

Following Debian's announcement and several weeks in beta on our HVM platform, we're pleased to announce the availability of the Debian 8 image on our public IaaS platform.

The Jessie package tree is available at https://mirrors.gandi.net/debian.

Note: We will not be providing a 32-bit version of Debian 8 for HVM.

Users of the Gandi CLI can create a VM using this image with a command like the following:

gandi vm create --image "Debian 8 64 bits (HVM)"

And to see all Debian 8 images:

$ gandi vm images 'Debian 8'
label : Debian 8 64 bits (HVM)
os_arch : x86-64

Today's new gTLDs entering the Sunrise phase are all fast-paced extensions. First, get caffeinated with .cafe. Since we parlons français (aren't you impressed?) we know that café is French for "coffee," but did you know it's also a place to buy coffee? Or a sandwich? Or a croissant?

Then, leaf through today's paper and glean some of today's .news. Of course, this gTLD is mostly aimed towards rapscallion newspaper boys with suspenders, bright red bandanas, tweed flat caps, and canvas messenger bags. Which are also popular with bike messengers, who we assume are the target audience for .express.

The list is below, accompanied by the corresponding Sunrise, Landrush and GoLive prices of a one-year registration, all at A rates:

  • .cafe: $162.19 | $183.79 | $41.41
  • .news: $167.59 | $178.39 | $31.15
  • .express: $162.19 | $183.79 | $41.41

The Sunrise phase will last until Saturday, July 4 on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Landrush phase will last from Sunday, July 12 to Wednesday, July 15. The GoLive phase will begin Wednesday, July 15.

Remember, the Sunrise phase is for TMCH-registered trademark holders. Contact our corporate support team if you have a TMCH-registered trademark (or would like help registering your existing trademark at TMCH) in order to register one of these new gTLDs during Sunrise. If you are not among the trademarked, you can still pre-register for the Landrush or GoLive phases. Two new TLDs are entering GoLive this Wednesday, May 6th : .sale and .video and together they remind us of that old-media standby: the video store. Video stores are due for a retro-chic revival. It happened with record stores. In the 90s the failing record store became a cliché but somehow, improbably, with the growth of the internet, vinyl became hip again. The time is ripe for VHS to do the same.

So let's make today Video Store day. Celebrate the kitschy quality of magnetic tape and go out and buy a video and then register a .sale domain for one year for $38.33 and a .video domain for one year for $28.83, all at A rates.

Tuesday April 28 marks the beginning of the Sunrise phase for .amsterdam, the latest geographic TLD.

Amsterdam, of course, is home to the Nemo museum, the Van Gogh museum, the Rembrandt and Anne Frank Houses, beautiful canals, famous bridges, open-air markets, and surely more, but nothing else Amsterdam is known for really comes to mind … hmm ...

The Sunrise phase for .amsterdam will be FCFS—first-come-first-served—meaning that if two people registering a domain, only the first to do so will get it. The price of a one-year .amsterdam registration during the Sunrise phase will be $654.19 at A-rates.

There will then be a quick priority registration for Amsterdam-based entities between May 29 and May 31 and then Landrush will go from June 1 to August 14. The .amsterdam extension then enters GoLive on September 1.

Maybe it has an appeal for old-timey prospectors or for jewelers or even olympic medalists but something about  .gold entering the Sunrise phase on Tuesday April 28 makes us immediately think of the 1970s. We feel the 70s were a great time for gold. We're thinking gold-veined black faux-marble tile lining a hot tub—with gold-trimmed wood paneling and low gold-fabric couches in the next room over—big gold plastic sunglasses, and some kind of shimmery gold disco dance outfit. With a gold tinsel wig.

Related to .gold, if only by proximate spelling, .golf is also entering Sunrise. Plus, more than just an after-thought, .plus is entering Sunrise too.

Finally, we are happy to see .tours enter Sunrise as well. If you have a travel agency specifically focused on the city of Tours in France, now's the time to act quickly to snag tours.tours. Otherwise, .tours is also great for ghost tours, three-hour tours, sightseeing tours and anything else you can think of.

For these TLDs, Sunrise will last until June 27 . Then, a three-day landrush   period will go from July 5 to July 8 and finally will enter GoLive July 8.
