Design is a plan. It’s a way of thinking critical about form and function. It can be beautiful or utilitarian or in rare cases, like the seminal designs of Dieter Rams for Braun, both. His sparse designs were aesthetically unmatched and functionally intuitive.

And in imitation, here is a sparse, functional price to match Rams’s design: from May 1 through June 15, .design domains will be on sale for 50% off: that’s $31.18 per year. 

What do you .design?

It's a great time to be a designer of any kind, really. It's no coincidence that this coincides with the Internet really coming into it's own. With everyone from huge multi-national corporations down to tiny Mom and Pops (and, yes, also literally your mom and your pop) in need of a website, design is in high demand.

Starting January 1 until February 15, 2016, we're making it a bit easier for designers by offering .design domains for half-price: that's $31.18 instead of the normal $62.36.

This is your chance to show off your design skills with a site on a domain that speaks to your calling as a designer. If you're new to the game, get a .design domain to throw some ideas online. Or if you're already an established designer, consolidate your online portfolio in a place that says unambiguously what you're all about.

What's your .design?

We live in a world of design. It saturates our daily existence and influences us in subtle ways, sometimes subconsciously. Consider how much thought has been put into your experience just walking down the street! The width of the sidewalk and the road was a design choice, the traffic control systems were designed, the names and logos of the stores and businesses you pass are designed and the products being sold or worked on inside are carefully designed.

The clothes on the people who walk past you were made by fashion designers. Take out your smartphone, a product of as much design as engineering, and use an app, also designed, to find the nearest art supply store where you can buy the tools to draft your own design. Now that's meta.

We'll have you know that we're sober enough to resist the urge to rant right here about all the BAD DESIGN in the world. If you ever meet us in real life, on the other hand... man oh man, do we ever have thoughts to share on that topic.

Anyway, .design has entered the GoLive phase. A one-year registration of a domain under this extension will cost $62.36 at A rates.

Register a .design?

Five more new gTLDs are entering the Sunrise phase.

• Or one about designing those little floral wreath crown things or managing the whitespace on RSVPs with a .design domain.
• And document your organic, hippy boho-chic wedding in an authentic 19th century barn in Northern California for all time with a .wedding domain.
• Maybe you can figure out how to fit in .fit?

Remember, the Sunrise phase is for TMCH-registered trademark holders.
