Go to the new Gandi

Customers in the US and Canada with their domains or hosting set to auto-renew are probably aware that they need to have a sufficient balance on their prepaid accounts in order for an automatic renewal to go through.

This meant either paying for the renewal long ahead of time by crediting your prepaid account at the same time as setting up the automatic renewal, or having to log in and add money to your prepaid account when your service came up for renewal anyway.

If this state of affairs has left you puzzling over what the whole point of automatic renewal was anyway, then we have good news for you.

As of Monday May 9, 2016, Gandi customers in North America may now set up a credit or debit card* to be automatically charged when their prepaid account is depleted.

That means you can now be charged on your card for an automatic renewal without having to log in again.

To take advantage of this feature, you need to have 3D Secure (also called “Verified by Visa” or “MasterCard SecureCode”) set up on your card. Then you can add your card from the Billing tab under your Prepaid Account (click to the “Credit” page).

Gandi Prepaid Credit Page

When you click “Add a card,” you’ll be asked to fill out some information and set the amount to debit, under what conditions.

Gandi Automatic Debit Settings Page

There will be a $1.00 test charge on your card and after that, you’re ready activate the card and charge everything straight to your prepaid account (don’t let it go to your head, though).

For more information on adding* a credit card to your Gandi account, see our wiki page on the subject.

You can, of course, still do things the old-fashioned way. Check out our other payment methods too.

And if you have any problems or any other questions, feel free to contact our Customer care team.

* Gandi does not store credit card information. Your card will be stored on file directly with our bank.

As a truly international company, Gandi has accepted payment, across all of our business units, in Euros, US Dollars, British Pounds Sterling, and more recently New Taiwan Dollars, Chinese Yuan and Swiss Francs, via credit card, bank transfer and PayPal.

But we think of ourselves first and foremost as a member of another community that's separate from the mechanisms of financial markets and which transcends national boundaries. Yes, we come from France originally, we have offices in Luxembourg, Taiwan and the US, but at heart, we are citizens of the Internet.

So that's why we're excited to join other progressive vendors of online services in helping our customers break their dependency on both big banks and fiat currency by adding payment by Bitcoin—the only currency guaranteed by an international series of tubes—to the payment methods we accept.

So, to use Bitcoin to pay for your next purchase from Gandi, you will just need to select "BTC" as the payment method. You'll then be redirected to our Bitcoin partner's site where you'll get a QR-code to scan in order to complete payment.

You can also add funds to your prepaid account via Bitcoin. Our provider will make the conversion for us to the currency you use for your account.

Questions? We're @gandibar on Twitter, and our support team is here to help.

All is not as it should be.

Over the past year, it has become more and more evident that our governments have been infringing on our rights to privacy online. They have no intention of changing their policies of interpreting the law in the most extreme way possible, and using all the data they can get thier hands on, warranted or not.

Today, June 5th, we take matters into our own hands. Those of us who love privacy, freedom and the Internet will collectively make our voices heard.

As a company beholden to no one but our customers, one of the things we can do is to share our resources with those who are dedicated to fighting for the things we believe in. Therefore, we have created a promo code, valid today only, to be used on new domain registrations:

50% of the price of all domain registrations purchased using this promo code will be donated to the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Fight for the Future.

Note: This is not a discount code. When applied, your shopping cart total will not change, and a "promotion" of 0% will appear.

We'll be updating this post throughout the day, and on Twitter: @gandibar

For more information about how we fight for a free and open Internet, check out our latest blog post, Come back with a warrant!

We hope you will join us in Resetting the Net!

The Gandi team

Update 9 June 2014:

Thanks to all who made purchases using the promo code, which totaled $713, despite the low-key announcement on our part. As promised, we'll be donating 50% of the total to EFF and Fight to the Future who are at the front lines of this fight. You guys are awesome.

1. The New Gandi Flex
2. A new limited edition t-shirt
3. Spotlight on .ME domains
4. The .CO on sale and then some
5. A new ICANN contract: big changes
6. Current promotions

This month we will remind you of a nice way to save money on your IaaS
Cloud server at Gandi, with the newly refactored Gandi Flex service. In
case you missed it, we will introduce the latest Gandi t-shirt (limited
edition!), and discuss the .ME and .CO domain extensions.

Of particular interest to privacy advocates will be the new ICANN
contract. In some ways we are all privacy advocates these days, since we
seem to have less and less of it every time we turn around, or look in
the news. The new contract will means some big changes, though. To round
out our newsletter this time, we will once again give you the latest on
the promotions we are running.

1. The New Gandi Flex
Gandi Flex has been around for a while, but our recent changes make it
all but unrecognizable. It's a way to set the power of your server to
whatever level you need it to be, on a recurring schedule. The resources
(CPU, RAM, and network) are adjustable hour-by-hour, at any level you

The best part is the excellent web interface our engineers came up with
for setting up the patterns of resources. With our new billing method,
it's sure to save you money on your Gandi cloud IaaS servers.

2. A new limited edition t-shirt
Our designer, Steven, has flashed out his 8-bit rendering skills and
come up with our latest design: the Gandi invaders shirt! It features
our proud logo zapping BS-tagged aliens, representing of course those
pesky pop-up offers and upsells you seem to get every few minutes when
using online services (other than Gandi, of course).
If you want one, let us know! Supplies are limited, and this one is sure
to be a classic among t-shirts.

3. Spotlight on .ME domains
Take advantage of the current promotion on .ME, which will last throughout
the summer, and get your Montenegrin extension at half price, or €8.00 ($12.00 / £7.00)
excl VAT
per year at A rates.

This promotion is valid only on creations of a domain
for a year and is not limited on the number of domains.

4. The .CO on sale and then some
The this extension is, according to Google, the latest gTLD. The
previous promotion of 50% was valid until July 4th, but today it is
extended until the end July. But that's not all! During the week of July
8 to 15
, it will be 75% off! If you time it right, there will be a great
.CO for you at a really great price.

5. A new ICANN contract: big changes
As you probably know, thousands of new domains will soon appear in the
Internet landscape. With over 300,000 pre-registrations, it's clear our
customers are interested. This has not escaped the attention of ICANN,
the supreme ruler of domain names, which has "proposed" a new version of
the basic registrar contract. As you might imagine, this contract is the
subject of controversy for all global registrars, and the verbal jousts
are in full force in forums and mailing lists. We are already planning
to implement some of the provisions before the end of the year. For
example, we will now have an obligation to check the contact data you
enter when you register a domain and ensure that the domain contacts are
reachable. We will let you know the details as they become more certain,
but you can already get a glimpse of what it will be like in this post
from back in April:

6. Current promotions
Here's a little reminder of the juicy promotions we are currently
running on domain names:

- The .IN (for India) is in special promotion mode until the end of the
year: 50% discount for any domain creation of 1 to 5 years, regardless
of your fee schedule:

- The .ME is 50% off all price levels until the end of September. Create
your .ME now for €8.00 ($12.00 / £7.00) excl VAT per year at A rates.

- .CO is 50% off for new domain registrations for a year. See the
special section above for the way to get %75 off!

If you like what we do, and want to tell us about how we can do better,
we always want to hear from you. Please, send your thoughts,
suggestions, missives, and compliments to newsletter-en@gandi.net

1. Pre-reserve a new gTLD domain at Gandi
2. Trademark protection with the new gTLDs
3. Big promotion on .PW
4. New Simple Hosting instance: node.js / PgSQL
5. Recap of current promotions

Spring is springing in the Northern Hemisphere, and while our
Australian customers prepare for Fall, the US and Europe are
getting ready to enjoy a return to sunshine and warm weather.
As the natural clouds thin and dissipate, Gandi's cloud computing
is rushing in to fill the gap. We are launching a new cloud instance
in beta test mode, a node.js/PgSQL Simple Hosting family! Combine
this with the recently announced Git support, and you have a
super-easy way to deploy dynamic web applications on reliable,
fast, and predictable infrastructure.

There is action on the domain name side too, with 2013 set to be the
year that ICANN fulfills the promise of the new gTLD releases.
Gandi is offering you the chance to get your request in line for the
domains you want to register with these new extensions, with our
pre-reservation system. There are over 40,000 already reserved! Now
we are also offering trademark protection for these extensions through
TradeMark Clearinghouse.

If you want to get a new domain on a new extension, you don't
need to wait! The .PW extension is live now, and we are making
it super easy with a promotional price of just $4 (€3, or £2.75) excl. VAT per .PW domain.

1. Pre-book a new gTLD domain at Gandi

Now you can pre-book the domains you want to register with the
upcoming batch of Top-Level Domain names. We have a registration
system online

We have listed 576 extensions that have so far not been blocked or
otherwise prevented from getting released.
We left out Internationalized special-character extensions
(IDN gTLDs) as these are of interest only to small numbers of
localized registrants. We included all of those we considered
to be popular in some way, to make sure we meet the most possible
demand. All pre-bookings you make are free, and will guarantee you
a chance at registering when the TLDs concerned open.
This is also a good way to keep abreast of developments in the
market, since we will be notifying you about any domains you pre-book.
For more information about how this works on our site, see here.

2. Trademark protection with the new gTLDs

With any new extension comes concerns about trademarks, brands, and
intellectual property. ICANN anticipated this, of course, and so for
the new gTLDs, there is a system in place to centralize the
management of these concerns. This aptly named "TradeMark Clearinghouse"
will be in charge of managing documentation related to
trademarks, and making them available for anyone involved in the
registration of new extensions. This will result in significant
simplification of the process, and help to reduce the costs associated
with verification, especially for those who wish to register domains
with several extensions. It will also provide a monitoring system, to
alert you when someone else registers your domain name with a different
Obviously, this service comes with a fee. Our corporate team has
developed an interesting offer for you to take advantage of, if you need
it. See here for more information.

3. Big promotion on .PW

Opening for registration at the end of last month .PW is now being
offered for a stunningly low price of just $4 (€3, or £2.75) excl. VAT for new, one-year
This domain is quite popular, and its use to denote "password" or
"pro-web" is catching on. If you want to join the fun, you have until
early June (or about the same time as winter ends in Europe this year!).
See here for more on this.

4. New Simple Hosting instance: node.js / PgSQL

A new kind of instance is now available (in beta for the moment).
This time we are making an instance dedicated to developers using
node.js. We are offering this with the PostegreSQL database to start
with, but will later add support for MongoDB, for those 10gen fans out
there. In the meantime, if you want to test it out and give us feedback,
you are welcome to! Our wiki page on this new instance family can be
found here.

5. Recap of current promotions

Here's a quick recap of promotions currently underway on Domain names at

- The .ASIA extension is available for $10.00 (€8, or £7.50) excl. VAT for creation of new
domains for a year. This promotion is valid until April 30 2013. More on this promo here.

- The .IN extension is on special until the end of the year: 50% off
for any new registration for from 1 to 5 years, regardless
of your pricing level. More on this page.

- The .MX extension offers the same class of special promotion, ie 50%
off on new registrations for from 1 to 5 years, but only in the month of
April. Learn more here.

So dear reader, as always we want to hear from you. Send us your
suggestions, comments, praise, criticism, and witticism. We read what
you send to newsletter-en@gandi.net with interest.
