It's always with great remorse that we make this type of announcement but effective 23 January 2017, in order to comply with our contractual obligations, we have increased registration and renewal prices on 76 TLDs, on all price grids.

The reason for the price increase largely has to do with the fact that we pay most new gTLDs in US Dollars and exchange rates have recently fluctuated such that we were compelled to increase rates on affected TLDs.

Generally, we don't adjust our prices based on minor exchange rate fluctuations, however the variations this time were too significant to be able to avoid adjusting our rates. So it's out of necessity that we are notifying you of the following new rates on the following TLDs:

Taxes are not included in the above prices, which unless otherwise indicated, apply both to renewals and creations.

Besides the TLDs listed above, the following TLDs are also impacted, though only in grids B through E:

.asia, .org, .ag, .tv, .tel, .ws, .mobi:

  • Grids B and C: +10% on transfers only
  • Grids D and E: +10% on all operations

One last TLD, .biz, is also impacted but only on Grid E. The prices for all operations have been increased by 10%.

While both .rest (for restaurants) and .bar (for, well, bars) have been open for business since 2014, today, October 19 the special, exclusive .bar and .rest are opening up too.

We're talking of course about premium domains.

These are the exclusive .rest and .bar's that are in high-demand, with a steeper price of admission to go with it. Here's just a sample menu of available options:

airport.bar (for that pre-flight grog)
exotic.bar (for all the rum drinks you can stomach)
fight.bar (first rule is: don't talk about fight.bar)
american.bar (play this one again, Sam)
cajun.rest (jumbalaya and crawfish pies)
buenosaires.rest (probably a steak house with a good house Malbec. Tuesdays are Tango night)
detroit.rest (for good food and good music, we assume)

As you can see, it's mostly a mix between some nice generic names and more geographic names.

Open that .bar or .rest you always wanted?:

This Monday is July 14th, which means our Parisian colleagues will be intoxicated with liberty and enthusiasm on the day of their independence. Here in the San Francisco office, we'll be tirelessly toiling on many things, not least of which is the planned GoLive of two new gTLDs.

Publically available registrations of .bar and .rest domains is scheduled to begin on Monday, 14 July at 5am PDT (noon UTC). Here are the prices in Landrush and GoLive at A rates:

  • .bar: $237.80 | $85.43
  • .rest: $170.63 | $42.88

At the time of this writing, there are just two hours left of the Landrush phase. You can already preregister for the GoLive phase right now. We recommend doing so as soon as possible, as we will be submitting the orders to the Registry at the moment GoLive begins, in the order they're received.

Register a domain under either of these TLDs?:
